in italy, typically along the narrow streets of venice, locals commonly dry their damp clothing by tossing the items over cables suspended between houses and buildings. the hanging shirts, sweaters and pants muffle the sounds of playing children on the street and the rattle of bouncing balls thumping along the roads.

designer luca nichetto has drawn reference from this observation and developed ‘notes’ for swedish manufacturer OFFECCT at stockholm furniture fair, a series of room-adapting sound panels and space dividers. conceived to be a free standing and flexible object, the panels can be dressed in recyclable felt made out of scraps from upholstery production. instead of building and tearing down walls to construct new spaces, users can easily reconfigure ‘notes’ in various ways to meet their specific needs.
