french designers ronan and erwan bouroullec have collaborated with crystal manufacturer swarovski to develop ‘gabriel chandelier’ a unique LED intervention in the palace of versailles in paris. measuring 12 meters in height and weighing half a tonne, the installation was conceived as the first permanent contemporary piece in the 17th century château. 800 crystal modules compose the suspended lighting system, illuminating the interior fabric of the space using a sequential pattern like magic. threaded around a stainless steel skeleton, the continuous crystal rope floats over the main staircase, glistening during the day, and providing a warm glow at night.
