rogers stirk harbour + partners awarded LSE campus project

a proposal from rogers stirk harbour + partners to redevelop the london school of economics’ aldwych campus, has been selected ahead of shortlisted entries from grafton architects, heneghan peng, hopkins architects and OMA. the announcement comes two weeks after the practices were told to reconsider their submissions by the LSE’s judging panel.
collaboration and study spaces within the atrium

rogers stirk harbour’s winning project is centered around a new public square, framed by the surrounding university buildings, creating a sense of place and connecting the scheme within the city’s existing urban fabric. internally, rooms and circulation areas have been crafted to encourage discussion and collaboration between students and staff through a variety of formal and informal spaces.
the atrium will be an active and engaging space

environmental design has been fully integrated, with passive ventilation allowing the building’s occupants to control their own environment, while narrow floor plans enable daylight to fully penetrate the scheme’s interior.
the adjacent street extends into the public realm of the building

rogers stirk harbour’s proposal was not only the favorite of the judges, but also with members of the public who had a chance to vote for their preferred design.
