extending outwards from a fountain once reserved only for nobility, the row of wooden bathtubs ‘chamarande les bain’ by french studio bruit du frigo provides a resting spot in the middle of the park. the playful sculpture is located in the historic grounds of chamarande, originally a famous holiday place where water was considered an important feature. the site has since been turned into a cultural and artistic center, and the installation creates a new dynamic between the exhibited art and people’s interaction with everyday objects. some of the tubs are not filled with water, but with cushions so they can be used as deckchairs by those not wanting to bath in a public place. sitting next to the edge of the basin are bright yellow ducks that start to spit in the fountain while emptying out the water. the structure aims to remind people that, unlike before, the park is now open for everyone to enjoy.
