Solar encourages the exploration of time, light, and nature. It encourages people to be continually curious outside the four walls of our homes, offices, or schools. Light triggers some of our most significant reflexes, emotions, and senses. Solar uses this to bring new forms of connection between user and place.

Solar is an interactive light and smartphone app that synchronise with a user-specified timezone to mirror the sun’s natural light cycle over a twenty-four hour period. It blends simplicity together with technology to create a unique take on light, time, and place. The curiosity of the user can be continuously pushed, by constant exploration of different timezones. This unique take on time can allow us to feel somewhat connected with places we may have never even been or seen.

The device is designed to be manufactured out of brushed aluminum (for the casing) and LED lights. There has also been exploration into the use of EL sheets, however the desired outcome is most efficient using a backlit LED screen.
