presented at DMY berlin 2011, ‘pit out’ is a new series of lamps by berlin-based studio e27, comprised of designers fax quintus, hendrik gackstatter and tim brauns. in production by german manufacturer domus licht, this three-piece collection of outdoor lamps is based on the studio’s indoor version of ‘pit’: with a simple ring and a hole connecting the shade to its body, each lamp has a flexible joint which allows 360 degrees of motion.
repurposed for outdoor use, the small and medium versions feature a spade-like bottom which allow them to be placed in a garden or open space. ‘pit out’ large is three meters tall and has an enormous lampshade, which also acts as a shelter from rain.
