Innovative Wave Energy Power Production by Ori Mayer from israel
designer's own words:
Our project is a renewable energy power station that generates electricity from the motion of waves. The prototype uses a series of hydraulic compressors to create resistance. Once pressure reaches a certain threshold level, the energy is transferred into turning a generator (producing clean, low cost and renewable energy).
The development includes eight stages (with very few moving components):
1) Base
2) Buoys
3) Hydraulic Pistons
4) Accumulator
5) Control System
6) Hydraulic Engine
7) Alternator
8) Hydraulic Recapture System
The design is innovative because 90% of the system sits above the water. This arrangement makes maintenance easy and cost effective.
If chosen as a winner, the funds will be used to build a wave energy power station. It will provide 0.5 MW of electricity at the cost $0.05 (five cents) per KW/h. A small project like this can provide enough energy to power between 400 -500 homes and completely change the lives of approximately 3,000 people.
This project is also economically revolutionary. For a onetime expense of $250 per person we can deliver a clean and affordable energy alternative for a community of about 3,000 people. The project will solidify our standing in the field of wave energy and grant us the resources we need to better people’s lives.
Our long-term goal is build a network of low costs wave energy stations for coastal populations that are dependent on fossil fuels. We believe that it is both affordable and practical to use clean energy when the resources are made available to serve the public.
