designer's own words:
Urban infrastructure absorbs and retains heat, and causes rising temperature. Especially, concrete major roads, such as overpass and highway, are one of the major causes of CO2 emission. Space under overpasses is remainded as huge dead space in a city as well.
Ecological "Memorial pile", contains remains of dead people and placed on abandoned spaces under overpass. As a new curtural infrastructure of city, Memorial piles grow plants and produce water, air, light and revitalize contaminated urban void by bringing the full fragrant memory into the city.
Memorial pile presents a new urban ecology system, and introduces a new culture for death at the dead void spaces of the city. As a new curtural space for burial and funeral, these structures manage fragrance and light. They recall memories of people's loved ones vividly or subtly to their minds.
There are two types of Memorial pile. Pot type of pole has contains remains of dead body from new corporeal processing-Promession. Fertilized by remains,it grows flower, a new life of nature.
Also, one flower pot has one person’s remains and, it suggests a new type of green tombstone. The material of the pot is biodegradable plant fibers. Another type of pile is linear structure type. It has the similar form with the pot pile, but it divides space and sets up atmosphere of space.
Remains of Dead body changes the dead void space into flower eco-zone. At this blurred space of Memorial and Park, people are encouraged to re-think death and life.
