complete with an internal red slide, ‘conan house’ which translates to ‘toy house’ is located in the popular holiday destination bang-dong, south korea. this playful home by south-korean architect moon hoon, was designed with the client’s inner child in mind. a box-like exterior form, the interior is broken up with small floors, that flow off the spiral staircase and internal void. this central core also functions as an exhibition space with the railing used as a display case for the owner’s toy collection. an avid collector of miniature robots and figures, they feature throughout the house. the jagged floor levels follow the staircase all the way up to the attic, where there is a small red slide that traverses down the void – adding to this building’s sense of fun. the compact house offers a feeling of vertical depth through the subtraction of this central space. a place for movement, play and exhibition, the other key rooms; living, kitchen and bedrooms are attached to this main central feature. windows are placed in the middle of each wall, filtering streams of light into the interior rooms. the sculptural house sits on an irregular plot of land, unhindered by its neighbors, it opens out to beautiful views across the lake and surrounding mountains.
