Oudh | Designing Experiences Through Textile | Future of Indian Craft by amolesing from india

designer's own words:

Oudh, a handcrafted textile production and consultation brand founded in 2013, attempts to redefine spaces and interiors. Handicraft is rightly described as the craft of the people. In India it is not just an industry, but the produce is also a creation symbolizing the inner desire and fulfillment of the community. Oudh was founded with the strong belief that there was a need to contemporarize the craftsmanship by giving a radical change in its application. Gone are the days when craft was used merely as a thing of beauty. Today we need to discover and create a wider avenue of expression for crafts, in order to sustain its existence and relevance. These new contexts will help increase the product range and market of hand aesthetics and crafts in India.

With globalization and urbanization, we are moving away from traditional techniques that used to mark our identity. Using these traditional (apparel) crafts in the urban context of interiors, Oudh infuses these time-tested aesthetics back into the modern life. India is rich in traditional craftsmanship, which has unfortunately not been utilized in terms of space. What Oudh proposes is to fill, is this gap by
providing an Indian aesthetic for space modification through textiles. Craft is the bedrock of creativity and Oudh hopes to use this essential
differentiator of our country in the sweeping winds of globalization in the future. In this unified world, due to rising consumption major changes have transformed the way Indians decorate their homes. The taste for a good life and increased appreciation for architecture has created a niche for a product that could combine Indian identity and luxurious living. This is where Oudh fits in with its range of products that express traditional Indian craft techniques in an urban space, therefore bringing craft again closer to people.
