Can City by Studio Swine from uk

Studio Swine has made a mobile aluminium foundry which runs on waste cooking oil. The furnace melts aluminium cans to create a 'Cast On Demand' system for the streets of São Paulo. Working with the waste collectors known as Catadores, they mine the streets for materials to produce a series of furniture with a strong local identity, providing a portrait of the streets.
 
The Can Stools are made for street food vendors which provided the waste cooking oil and the aluminium cans for the furnace. Sand moulds are made from construction sand from the abundant building sites around the city, the shapes for the moulds are created using an assemblage of objects found on the streets. The furnace and the tools are made with salvaged materials.
 
The large majority of carbon footprint of products comes from the transportation of goods rather than their manufacture. 'Can City' is a system that recycles waste into products locally according to demand, drastically reducing carbon emissions.

'Can City' proposes a future possibility where the Catadores (waste collectors) can adopt this system to make use of free metal and free fuel to produce an infinite range of individually crafted aluminium items increasing their income.
