combining design traditions from finland with a new, innovative approach, the ‘wave’ shoe was uniquely developed by finnish designer marita huurinainen. wooden footwear is rarely associated with elegance, lightness and style. the design is refreshingly different following a clean and simple philosophy, where beauty and function clearly meet. nature references are obvious with the choice of material, and conceptually the piece resembles a real wave. with its delicate, curving shape, the ‘high heels’ question the regular structure used to connect feet with the floor – as the wood rises up from the foot bed, it then folds back down touching the ground – providing the necessary strength to carry a person from a to b. finnish architect, alvar aalto originally developed a technique for wood bending, however it was not intended for such a dramatic angle. initially told that such a form was impossible marita huurinainen has pushed the manufacturing process to new limits.
