designer's own words:

The 'lampless' shade has been inspired by the fundamental principles of OLED's as an illuminating surface.

A double sided OLED module has been created by bonding two 200mm x 50mm OLED panels together, back to back. This new module is then encapsulated into a resin / plastic casing that is slightly textured to soften the crisp edges of the OLED panel. Each module can be fixed onto a cable track system that provides seperate electrical circuits to each side of the module, enabling seperate control.

The cable track creates a structural spine that allows multiple double sided modules to be fixed side by side, creating a larger illuminating surface. The track can also be curved in profile to allow circles or flowing ribbon forms to be created.

With a small number of standard component parts it is possible to create a variety of dynamic flowing shapes and demonstrate the unique qualities of OLED technology.
