the capsule of eternal love cel by leo rolph from australia
designer's own words:
Life in the grand scheme is short lived, once we are gone it’s not long before any evidence of our existence is gone and this is not just so for individuals but for whole species. The Capsule of Eternal Love (CEL) is a reminder to the world, or universe that the deceased person once existed and was loved; it is a vessel of DNA, a reference of the human species and a story of that persons life. The CEL also contains live microbes that have some potential of carrying a sample of earths life in its branches, which might slowly adapt to new environments and evolve new life, either on earth or on another planet. Made from pure titanium with deep engraved images and created as a single piece by 3D printing it is a tribute to human accomplishments and current technology. Both the hair sample and the plant seed set within the capsule embedded in resin contain DNA relevant to all life on earth, and yet is personal to the deceased for whom this ornament was made. Being only 7cm tall the unique shape and intricate detail will be perceived with wonder and excitement by viewers and kept as a precious memento by loved ones. Nothing similar has ever been created, and it could be a grand addition to the future of celebrating a life that once was. Preserving our story as an individual and as a species is an integral and important commitment that we should all take seriously and demand of ourselves and others. In many cultures scattering the ashes of a deceased individual is customary and the CEL was designed to be part of this tradition, to be released into nature or space, though still remaining intact for future investigation and identification by either humans or other life.
