in its 20th year of business, furniture manufacturer richard lampert presents two new shelving systems on the occasion of salone del mobile 2013: ‘atelier’ by marco dessi and ‘frame’ by alexander seifried; which will be accompanied by a presentation of pieces the german company has produced–from classic to more unconventional designs–over the last two decades to celebrate this anniversary.

designboom recently spoke with richard lampert and asked him how the collection has evolved over the past years, about the various collaborations he has been involved in during this time, and what we should look forward to seeing from the company during milan design week 2013. see our richard lampert interview here

alexander seifried‘s ‘frame’ takes its formal cues from ‘eiermann shelving’ by ego eierman, in which the young german designer wanted to create a contemporary standing version of the classic 1932 storage system–one of the archetypes in the history of shelf construction which never actually made it into serial production. seifried’s interpretation is composed of a basic frame–in either white, black or grey–which is combined with steel tubes reminiscent of the ‘eiermann shelf’ supports; with ledges offered in black or white melamineor a smoked oak or bleached maple finish. produced in three different heights and two different widths, the combination of components allows one to use the system as a sideboard, highboard, room divider or TV stand, in which drawers or doors may be integrated for keeping more private things out of sight. optional boxes–in white or oak with a non-slip film on their base to secure positioning–are also available, providing a flexible, piece of furniture for all types of items.

functioning as a wall shelf and coat rack, ‘atelier’ is based on a simple construction system using commercially available metal brackets–made from 2mm steel and slant cut–combined with melamine or solid wood shelves in arrangements of two or three. designed by marco dessi, the screws used to mount the sturdy but light wing-like supports are covered when the shelves are set in place. these come in various lengths, the metal brackets allowing one to extend the units to create pieces which offer sufficient space for a multitude of books and other items.

for additional storage options in kitchen and hallway situations, brackets with with pre-cut slots may be used for inserting bars that provide ample space for either keeping utensils and cooking tools handy; or for hanging your coat. in the aforementioned case, the italian designer has also conceiveda small acrylic mirror to complete the ensemble which can be hung on one of the accompanying hooks. the powder coated steel sheeting which comprisesthe structural elements comes in white, basalt grey and a dark bronze tone, with the hooks available in a slew of different colors including: basalt grey, blood orange, dusky pink, light ivory, pale green and sulphur yellow.
