Buildner, in collaboration with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Government, has officially launched the Dubai Urban Elements Challenge, an international architecture and urban design competition featuring an impressive total prize fund of €500,000. The competition invites architects, designers, urban planners, and visionaries from around the world to propose innovative, human-scale urban elements that will help define Dubai’s evolving identity.

The challenge focuses on impactful small-scale architectural interventions—such as street furniture, pedestrian bridges, lighting installations, shading structures, wayfinding systems, and other urban details that enhance public spaces. These elements play a crucial role in shaping the everyday experience of residents and visitors, transforming the city’s streetscapes into meaningful, well-designed environments.

Participants are asked to submit clear, imaginative, and practical proposals tailored to Dubai’s seven distinct urban zones, considering their unique architectural, cultural, and social contexts. The submission format is straightforward and accessible, requiring visual materials such as sketches, renderings, diagrams, and concise written explanations.

The competition is open internationally to architects, designers, and urban visionaries, with no professional qualifications required.
