on the occasion of the milan design week 2013, hong kong brand EOQ debuts three new designs by michael young presented within entratalibera, taking over each of the rooms, as well as the terrace, of the design store. the suite of furniture pieces entitled ‘deus ex machina’ includes the ‘joseph’ lamps, ‘orsted desk’, and ‘bayer’ modular shelving’ which celebrate the innovation of working with aluminium extrusions.

‘bayer’ is a set of modular shelves which are held together structurally by aluminium links that are meant to exude an aesthetic fragility — while still exhibiting the strength of the material from which it is made. the components are fashioned to remind one of roots and branches, and offer flexibility and practicality for the user.

expressing function through a simple form, the ‘orsted’ desk is an extruded workstation which is made from a piece of aluminium that has been cleverly shaped to form a small storage pocket for small items.

also made from aluminium, the ‘joseph’ lighting collection presents a soft silhouette, while still reassuring the strength of the object and the material from which it is produced. each one is extruded into shape and softened with CNC cutting before it is milled to open up the core and allow light to be diffused through its fins.
