designed by new york-based practice thomas phifer and partners, the ‘madison house’ is single level structure located in a wooded area outside wisconsin’s capital city. the residence is arranged around a continual english-bond brick wall, which weaves in and around the existing trees on site. the solid earth-tone masonry ribbon possesses convex and concave characteristics that create pockets of introverted space or spans as a backdrop to the vegetative forefront.  the homogeneity of the wall is periodically interrupted by slivers of reflective glass that mirror fragments of the opposing landscape, at times presenting a reflection of green, at others casting opposing segments of the structure. the interior is organized into four major organic spheres with views to the outside, connected by a winding open corridor.
