Ark of the Future House splits into four courtyards
Ukrainian studio SHOVK designs Ark of the Future House in Kyiv, embracing the philosophy of a home as a work of art, prioritizing inspiration and expression over mere practicality. With minimalist and futuristic aesthetics, the project forms a unique composition and creates a vision of a home for tomorrow. Located on a compact plot with challenging planning constraints, the design divides the site into four courtyards, each serving distinct purposes and evoking different atmospheres.
The front courtyard functions as the welcoming space at the main entrance, complete with a minimalist parking area that blends functionality with the home’s sleek aesthetic. The inner courtyard is a private lounge for relaxation and hosting guests. Situated at the back of the house, it connects the living room and bedroom to a tranquil open area. The garden offers a natural retreat, encouraging a closer connection with nature through gardening. The scenic terrace, separated from the living room by an expansive glazed surface, merges architecture with the lake and surrounding landscape.

SHOVK integrates nature into the home’s interior
The architectural team focuses on spatial composition and layout to ensure the home integrates nature into its interior while maximizing lake views. The design separates public and private zones, enhancing both functionality and privacy. The daytime areas—comprising the entryway, living room, kitchen, and utility spaces—are distinct from the compact private quarters containing the bedrooms. While the private areas are designed for efficiency, the living room zone is intentionally spacious to foster family connection and interaction. Ark of the Future illustrates a harmonious balance of aesthetics, comfort, and the integration of nature.
