ASB GlassFloor originally made its mark in the sports industry with glass floors integrated with LED technology, adapting to different activities at the push of a button. Expanding into architectural applications, the company’s versatile technology is key in making Stuttgart’s ambitious energy goals more tangible, creating an engaging experience at EnergiePlaza that showcases the flexibility and impact of the LED-integrated glass floor surfaces.

VERSATILE LED TECHNOLOGY FOR WALLS, FLOORS AND CEILINGS

When designing its new headquarters, Stadtwerke Stuttgart wanted to provide visitors with an extraordinary experience, resulting in the creation of the EnergiePlaza. Upon entering the premises, visitors are greeted by a ten square meter LED wall that visualizes Stadtwerke Stuttgart’s mission for a future powered entirely by clean energy. The wall reacts to visitors’ movements, creating a moment of emotional engagement as they interact with the display.

Meanwhile, in the Solar Lounge, ASB GlassFloor’s technology is further showcased through an additional eight meter long LED wall with a high resolution of 1.9 mm pixel density. This interactive installation displays real-time energy flows through an energy monitoring system and also serves as part of a consultation tool. Visitors can explore how the urban energy transition can be implemented, with the results of personalized simulations displayed on this expansive LED-embedded surface.

Another feature of the Solar Lounge is an eight square meter ceiling installation that simulates sunlight, allowing visitors to determine whether their roof is suitable for solar panel installation and calculate potential energy yields. This combination of functionality and interactivity not only informs but also inspires, making ASB GlassFloor a key player in the future of adaptable, smart spaces.

For Christof Babinsky, Managing Director of ASB GlassFloor, this project marks another example of how the company’s products open up innovative possibilities for architectural applications. He explains: ‘The Stadtwerke Stuttgart project impressively demonstrates the versatility of our technology and its usefulness in a wide range of applications. In Stuttgart, you can clearly see how technology can aid learning processes and make abstract topics more tangible. There are so many conceivable possibilities in this field – spaces can change their appearance at the push of a button and adapt to different moods. I am confident that such applications will increase significantly.’
