EV Fun and EV Urban Concept electric motorcycles by Honda

Honda unveils two of its concept electric motorcycles: EV Fun Concept and EV Urban Concept. Introduced at the motorcycle trade show EICMA 2024 in Milan, Italy, the manufacturer plans to increase its electric-motorcycle line-up as part of its mission to go carbon neutral by 2050 and to become the ‘leading company for electric motorcycles. The EV Fun Concept is Honda’s first electric sports model with a ‘naked’ battery, set to go on sale in 2025, while the EV Urban Concept is tailored for everyday commuting (no release date yet).

The Honda EV Fun Concept gets to be the first electric motorcycle to be released in 2025. It’s designed for ‘fun’ use and has a naked sports model, which is similar to a mid-sized internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle. This is the first time the manufacturer sets eyes on producing an electric sports model with a fixed and ‘exposed’ battery. Because it’s electric, it’s most likely a ‘quiet’ vehicle, and Honda says it’s free from vibrations caused by uneven roads. The fixed battery is compatible with the CCS2 quick charger, which is used for electric cars, and has been developed for fast charging, as well as to provide a cruising range of over 100 km or more, which is sufficient for city use.

intuitive human-machine interface for EV Urban concept

Compared to the EV Fun Concept, Honda’s EV Urban Concept electric motorcycle has a rounded and softer look, which makes it more visually suitable for everyday commute. While it still bears the naked battery concept, it’s not as exposed as the one on its sibling. Here, it’s encased and positioned between the footrests. What Honda says so far about this concept electric motorcycle is that it has an intuitive human-machine interface (HMI). There’s no date yet for its release, but the manufacturer keeps it in mind as it gears toward releasing more electric rides.

Honda marks 2024 as its first year of the global launch and introduction of its electric motorcycles. It’s a way to tell its clients that the manufacturer has entered into the electric market on a full scale, positioning the time up to 2026. After this year, it’s a period of business expansion for Honda as it aims to achieve carbon neutrality through all of its products and corporate activities by 2050, and in particular, achieve carbon neutrality for all of its motorcycle products in the 2040s. The manufacturer expects to introduce 30 electric models globally by 2030.
