poetic traditions shape azerbaijan pavilion at expo 2025 osaka

Aligned with Expo 2025 Osaka’s subtheme, Connecting Lives, the Azerbaijan Pavilion will invite reflection on how global cultural exchange can pave the way to a more sustainable future. Swiss studio Bellprat Partner has teamed up with ELEVEN for the design, which is conceived as a passageway of monumental, perforated arches leading to a metallic volume at the end.

Titled Seven Bridges for Sustainability, the pavilion nods to the revered poetry of the nation — namely the legendary tale of the Seven Beauties. Each layer then represents an individual chapter in Azerbaijan’s cultural narrative, with the journey informing visitors of its heritage and forward-looking sustainability initiatives.

Bellprat Partner and ELEVEN set forth a sequence of arches, which individually represent elements of culture and together become united, metaphorical bridges of connection. Alongside the vast arches and spatial immersion, the architects will implement technologies and sensory design displays in the exhibition space to enhance the narrative-based concept of the pavilion. Interactive displays and digital projects bring the Seven Beauties to life, allowing visitors to engage with Azerbaijan’s cultural stories in a multi-sensory format.

The upcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, running from April 13th to October 13th, 2025, will center on the theme of ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’. On the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka, Japan, the fair will invite invite nations to contemplate pressing global ideas of sustainability, new technologies, and design rooted in heritage.
