Void table collection by Jung Hoon Lee explores the relationship between life and the vastness of the universe through refined circular forms. Inspired by the cosmos, the collection emphasizes life as a rare and unexpected anomaly within the emptiness of space. The design aims to capture the essence of life’s delicate vitality and its transient presence in the grand scheme of the universe.

Crafted from blackened wood, the tables are composed of heavy, circular masses that represent the immensity and infinity of the cosmos. The choice of material and form reflects the structure and order of the universe, while subtly alluding to the tension between its permanence and the fleeting nature of life.

Void Table collection celebrates life and space

Engravings on the table’s surface—modeled after organic forms like fruit stalks and mammalian navels—symbolize life’s continuity and vibrancy. These carvings create swirling patterns that draw inward, echoing the natural grain of the wood and suggesting the potential energy contained within.

The arrangement of these shapes radiates outward from the center of the table, resembling ripples that expand across the surface of the universe. Through this composition, Void expresses the contrast between the vast, unknown realms of existence and the subtle imprint of life within it. By merging organic and cosmic motifs, the designer reflects on the significance of existence and the interconnectedness of life and space.
