yodezeen completes sierra house near kyiv

YODEZEEN’s Sierra House near Kyiv, Ukraine, is characterized by cubic forms and sharp lines, complemented by a fusion of raw materials and contemporary accents that embrace natural textures. Basalt, a volcanic rock, makes up 30% of the facade, adding a rugged elegance to the minimalist forms. Meanwhile corten steel adds an industrial touch, envisioned to develop a rust-like patina over time. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls flood the home’s interiors with natural light, connecting the indoor spaces with the surrounding landscape and fostering a sense of openness.

rigorous materials elevate the architecture’s cubic forms

Maksym Sydorchuk, the project’s chief architect, notes, ‘The journey to create something unique, unconventional, and daring led us to select materials seldom used in residential architecture.’ Inside, YODEZEEN continues this curated material selection, combining wood, metal, and stone in a harmonious flow. Wood and glass in particular serve to infuse natural tranquility and enhance connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces. Each room within Sierra House is elevated by organic textures and bespoke furniture solutions alongside hand-selected veneers and a smart home system.

Functionality and thoughtful planning are central to the Ukrainian studio’s design. The basement is reserved for technical areas and staff, while shared spaces like the kitchen and living room occupy the main level, and bedrooms are situated on the third floor. Spacious terraces offer relaxation areas for residents, complementing the architecture with views of the surrounding landscape.
