This project has drawn inspiration from Moroccan hurricane lanterns. The decorative nature of these age old lanterns focus directly on their exterior walls and not on the light source inside. With Oled technology we are capable to create forms where surfaces are the light source, which in this project echoes the Moroccan lanterns aesthetic intentions. There are six 140x140mm Oled panels held in pairs within a polyurethane sleeve allowing a natural hinge to be formed between the two panels. These parts are then attached to two separate frames allowing them to hinge to and from the structure when raised to different levels. This movement is controlled by a drawstring cord allowing each pendant in a series to be adjusted to different form that give light in different directions. The human interaction with the piece amplifies the organic feel of the Oled lighting making the experience of using it more natural. Being a widely adjustable material, the polyurethane can be made in almost any colour allowing this piece to become versatile for the customer.
