trollback + company redesigns china's CCTV9 documentary channel logo

CCTV electronica

when china’s national broadcaster CCTV wanted to redesign their cube logo, they asked trollbäck + company to develop six new IDs (bamboo, electronica, ice cave, metropolis, porcelain, space station) for their CCTV9 documentary channel. to express the scope of their programming, the communication agency created logo animations based on six broad themes that reflect the channel’s coverage of natural history, human endeavors, illumination, arts, progress and infrastructure. from the humid serenity of a bamboo forest just after the rain, to the brand new rem koolhaas designed CCTV headquarters in beijing, each representation allows the new multi-faceted cube logo to define its material properties to compliment its environment.

CCTV9 documentary is a window into the universe, dealing with where we come from, how we got here, how we live, and where we are going. trollbäck + company embraced the comprehensive spirit of the project alongside a global team: their client in china, creative team in the USA, and sound design from gavin little at echolab in ireland. each of the six iterations were created in maya and C4D.
