ARCHIHOPE Designs BMW Foshan Baochuang Center

 

ARCHIHOPE Ltd. has designed the BMW Foshan Baochuang Center in Chancheng District, Foshan, across two parcels of land with a total area of 7,865 sqm. The project integrates a BMW Green Star BEACON initiative with LEED BD+C gold certification, combining a multifunctional showroom with social and office spaces. A corridor connects the two buildings, unifying the structure’s appearance while meeting distinct functional requirements.

 

The design addresses the subtropical climate of Lingnan by incorporating sustainable architecture inspired by the region’s traditional ‘Qilou’ style. Ventilation and heat dissipation techniques such as skywells, cooling alleys, and breathing walls are used to enhance natural airflow. The corridor serves as both a shaded walkway and part of the building’s facade, integrating shading systems to improve climate response and reduce heat gain. The massing of the building is composed of two interlocking C-shaped structures, creating a unified volume while accommodating diverse functional zones.

ARCHIHOPE incorporates innovative mesh facade

 

The building’s facade uses a cantilevered structure to provide shading and minimize glare, creating comfortable spaces for users. The designers at ARCHIHOPE introduce a ‘spider web’ lattice screen and metal mesh on the exterior to provide shade while allowing natural light to penetrate. This feature also creates a large terrace on the second floor, enhancing outdoor activities and ensuring ventilation. The southeast facade incorporates perforated aluminum panels to further reduce heat gain and enhance the customer experience.

 

To improve energy efficiency, the building integrates several sustainable strategies, including self-shading systems, efficient cooling, fresh air monitoring, and water-saving irrigation techniques. Modular workstations and detachable partitions in the indoor exhibition and office areas contribute to energy savings and sustainability by enabling flexible space usage.

ARCHIHOPE’s design ensures Spatial Connectivity

 

The design prioritizes a seamless interaction between people and vehicles, with multiple entrances and the ability for cars to access all floors, including the roof. The southern section of the building contains exhibition areas, offices, and parking, while the northern section houses workshops. The central corridor connects these areas, allowing for smooth traffic flow and functional connectivity.

 

The interior design emphasizes openness and relaxation, with a focus on creating a bright, gallery-like atmosphere. The first-floor exhibition area uses pixel modularity as a design concept, with stacked forms contrasting against dynamic lighting. A sunken coffee area in the atrium serves as the central hub of the building, where natural light enhances the spatial experience. A circular pathway connects the floors, promoting airflow and cooling, while the landscape design integrates greenery both indoors and outdoors to improve the microclimate and user well-being. ARCHIHOPE’s design aims to provide a high-quality, sustainable environment that fosters relaxation and comfort for its occupants.
