Architecture and design enthusiasts, watch our live panel discussion from May 20th, 2024, during NYCxDesign 2024. From an NYC rooftop overlooking the iconic Chrysler building and Fifth Avenue below, architect Pascale Sablan, audio designer Christian Schluender, and iF Design USA Managing Director Lisa Gralnek discuss the ‘Power of Place’ followed by a live DJ set and cocktail party.

 

The talk was moderated by designboom senior editor Kat Barandy, and hosted by iF Design, host of the prestigious international design award which just last year opened its first US office in New York City. Among New York Design Week’s packed schedule of exhibitions and installation openings (see designboom’s event guide here), this talk was a must-attend for those interested in how design shapes our experience of the world. ‘Power of Place’ was held at the NYC headquarters of design agency HARMAN / Huemen.

Co-hosted by iF Design and designboom during NYCxDesign 2024, the Power of Place live panel includes a diverse mix of design voices for a cross-disciplinary, multifaceted perspective.

 

Pascale Sablan is an architect and activist recognized for her contributions to the field of architecture and her advocacy for diversity and inclusion within it. As the Global President of NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects) and founder of Beyond the Built Environment, Sablan promote the visibility and success of underrepresented minorities in the industry, aiming toward a more inclusive and equitable industry. Her work encompasses architectural design as the CEO of Adjaye Associates New York Studio, and further extends to mentorship programs established to inspire the next generation of diverse architects.

 

Christian Schluender is an industrial designer and Senior VP and General Manager of Global Design at HARMAN International and Huemen Design. He is celebrated for his cutting-edge approach to product development and his commitment to sustainable design practices. Schluender integrates technology and experience-centric principles into his practice with an eye for design. From sleek consumer electronics to eco-friendly household goods, his work reflects a dedication to both form and function to shape the way we interact with the world around us.

 

Lisa Gralnek, the managing director of iF Design USA, and Global Head of Sustainability and Impact. Lisa is an expert brand builder helping design-driven companies ground transform. In November 2020, she launched FUTURE OF XYZ, an interview series comprised of quick and candid conversations with innovative leaders exploring where we are as a world and where we want to go.
