designer's own words:
The Manipal museum of anatomy and Pathology is the largest museum of its kind in Asia. Spanning across 20,000 square feet, it is home to around 3000 medical specimens of Anatomy and Pathology. The museum also contains animal specimens and skeletons, which is very popular with the visitors, especially school children.
The earlier incarnation of the museum was a little more than a warehouse, with rows of wooden cabinets holding specimen jars under an extremely basic arrangement. Idiom’s task was to reorganize the museum to display anatomy, pathology and animal specimens into separate sections and provide for a visually stunning experience for the visitor. Idiom also added the erudition that would inspire young minds and develop a curiosity towards studies in medicine.
Idiom felt that the extrordinary specimens deserved to be showcased in a better way. Which led us to design the displays and layout so the visitor could focus on each specimen and find a constant advance in the knowledge garnered, while keeping the design minimal and extremely functional. In addition to efficiently reconfiguring the space and layout, Idiom also developed vivid imagery and a visual style to graphically represent each of the sections. These were displayed as wall graphics and information panels highlighting each area as a cohesive unit.
The museum is visited by schools, colleges and the general public and also serves as a valuable resource for medical students.
