designer's own words:
We had to explore different materials in terms of their properties and how these materials can be manipulated to exhibit properties which they don’t generally exhibit by subjecting them to different operations like coiling, bending, shredding, heating, knotting, moulding, stitching, etc. I explored all different materials but was particularly drawn towards wood and metals. Within metals explored aluminium, galvanized, brass wire by twisting, coiling, heating, bending and hammering them to generate different kinds of volumes. The volumes I generated initially were just exploration with no defined purpose in mind. This give me an understanding of how the two dimensional material can be manipulated into a three dimensional volume. Finally I chose coiling as my technique to work on metal wire of different gauges. The chosen technique and the material gave me lots of possibilities to generate shapes. I created three squares of different dimensions from metal wire and then I joined them with each other in a random order and explored the overall form. The first exploration I did was from a single piece of metal wire to generate a complete volume. But I faced a lot of problems as the process was very time taking and cumbersome and was difficult to mould in a pre defined shape. So I broke down the volume into individual elements of three different sizes and shaped them individually by bending without any kind of moulding before joining them all together to generate my final product.
