how Moment Motor turns classic cars into ev-powered rides

Moment Motor Company specializes in integrating industry-leading EV technologies into vintage collectible automobiles to deliver a thrilling on-road experience perfectly paired with everything collectors love about vintage car design. With classic cars in collections oftentimes not being driven frequently, it offers owners to enjoy some of their favorite vintage automotive designs in an entirely new way with high-performance fun. ‘Car collectors flock to the 60’s-era E-Type, but the hard truth is that while these vintage Jaguars offer legendary styling and presented impressive performance for their day, their drivetrains require extensive work on a regular basis. For many enthusiasts, owning one means endless hours tuning carburetors, adjusting timing, and fixing leaks. That’s where Moment Motor Company comes in,’ comments Founder Marc Davis.

Each vehicle modification is specially engineered to complement the vehicle’s chassis to ensure well-balanced, dependable on-road performance specifically designed for daily driving. Another important consideration for Moment Motor Company clients is that the new Series I E-Type presents a nearly maintenance-free car that offers continuous reliability.

Moment’s engineering process starts with a full-scale analysis

Moment’s engineering process starts with a full-scale analysis of the 1966 Jaguar Series I E-Type to determine how to ideally integrate the new EV powertrain and properly distribute the batteries on board. Implementing state-of-the-art CAD imaging to create 3D models of the vehicle allows the company to expertly install key powertrain components into the ideal locations, prioritizing weight balance and handling for completely new experience. And for the purists, Moment makes sure to keep all engine and original transmission parts for clients; the company can coordinate having an electrified conversion swapped back to the car’s original form.

60kWh battery, 375 lb-ft of torque, and 300hp

Moment has applied their proven drivetrain from their other popular conversions to the Jaguar E-Type, but this is no generic solution. Special attention was spent to fit the powerhouse electric motor entirely within the transmission tunnel delivering 375 lb-ft of torque and 300hp directly to the Jaguar rear end with a precision balanced carbon fiber driveshaft. The gearing precisely selected to deliver power for mid-5 second 0-60 bursts and high-speed highway romps. The 60kWh battery pack is distributed in the chassis to retain the perfect weight balance while delivering 175 miles of electrified driving and optional fast charging.

subtle digital upgrades on the 1966 Series I Jaguar E-Type

The cockpit, meanwhile, retains the classic gauges and controls, expertly re-made to show power consumption, state of charge, and temperature. A small subtle digital display tucked in the glove box shows more detailed data only when needed. Optional electric air conditioning keeps the cabin cool and cargo room is unaffected with the rear battery box hidden where the original fuel tank resided. ‘It’s what we would describe as an ‘urgent’ car – it really puts you in your seat when you want it to. Behind the wheel, drivers feel like a pilot in a RAF Spitfire surrounded by those beautiful gauges and switches that we’ve subtly redesigned to show you all the essential EV information while maintaining the exact look and feel of the original cockpit. It’s impossible to drive this car without a huge smile on your face,’ concludes Davis.
