Jinhua Newenergy Car-City Square in Jinhua City, China, emerges as a pivotal platform for advancing the new energy vehicle industry, supported by national and provincial policies. milanesi | paiusco’s design concept intricately weaves together two core elements inspired by automotive culture: mathematical functions describing electric impulses and the aerodynamic coefficient Cx. Beyond stylistic representation, the focus lies in creatively embodying the theme of ‘innovation,’ transcending conventional architectural norms. Through rigorous research on shape and aerodynamics akin to automotive design, we explored how architecture can narrate the story of innovation and interaction with moving objects. Wind tunnel simulations and mathematical models enabled us to understand the complex dynamics between vehicles and surrounding space, informing the project’s digital language to create immersive spatial experiences.

architectural language draws from automotive technologies

Anchored in China’s electric vehicle innovation sector, the project, led by designer Claudio Milanesi, pays homage to innovative technologies through its architectural language. The hourglass shape, inspired by magnetic field lines, optimizes the Solar Chimney effect and convective movements for ecological sustainability. The design team integrates the project within the urban grid harmonizing functionality and energy efficiency, and avoiding the creation of isolated structures. A dedicated pathway traversing the site serves as a dynamic space for automotive experiences, showcasing new car models, driving data, and hosting commercial events. This ‘road’ serves as an ideal stage for presenting new car models, fostering interaction between people and cars while highlighting the project’s innovative approach.
