curved panels integrate casa voluta into the landscape

For the realization of the ‘Casa Voluta’ by architect Mario Martins, the aim was to bring the calm and relaxation of the exterior environment indoors. The design stands out for the organic lines that dominate the project and seem to flow expressively with the context. The ability to deform OTIIMA’s framing systems allowed the architect to give continuity to the expressive and sinuous character of the house, creating harmony with the scenic views of the golf course and the ocean.

This indoor-outdoor relationship was made possible by the imposing windows, and beautifully tailored panels that create an impressive architectural statement while enhancing the surroundings. Additionally, these curves are occasionally interrupted by sharp lines, creating a play with the sunlight and its shadows, and inviting the inhabitant to contemplation.

Liberdade Building 49′: expressiveness in a gesture

With the signature of renowned architect Ana Costa, ‘Liberdade Building 49’ uses one of OTIIMA’s corrugated frame systems. This building is part of OTIIMA’s portfolio of rehabilitation projects. Located on Lisbon’s most prestigious and attractive avenue, Avenida da Liberdade 49, this sophisticated project returned a former office building to residential use.

To achieve this change in function, the team opted for a major intervention on the facade, adding a ‘new skin’. With large windows and golden reflective panels, the implementation of this new skin had as its principle the addition of a new thickness that would allow the creation of balconies and work on a system of reliefs and shadows. The application of OTIIMA’s framing system allowed for a perfect balance between the privacy of the inhabitants and the generous outdoor spaces. Ana Costa’s design preserves the original character of the building, while providing a contemporary gesture in the visual permeability of its curved corner.
