Picking up on Kuwait’s characteristic landscape and traditions, the structure features a distinctive silhouette with two symbolic wings inviting visitors inside. High ceilings, transparent roofs, and layered spaces complete the architecture, while premium materials are seamlessly integrated with lush greenery and state-of-the-art technology.

The Kuwait pavilion’s exhibition is set to spotlight the nation’s commitment to a sustainable future and its efforts to bolster its global stature through economic diversification and targeted national development. Celebrated as a cultural lighthouse and a symbol of tolerance for its contributions to Arab culture, arts, and social welfare, Kuwait will present itself as a Visionary Lighthouse illuminating the Gulf region and commanding global recognition.

‘We are pleased and honored to unveil the State of Kuwait’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. It will serve to forge bridges of friendship and solidarity between Kuwait and Japan, as well as among all nations around the world,’ says Salem Al-Watyan, Commissioner General of the State of Kuwait for Expo 2025 Osaka. ‘Fifty-four years ago, Kuwait was one of only four Arab nations present at Expo 1970 in Osaka. Since then, significant milestones in bilateral cooperation, partnership, and solidarity between Kuwait and Japan have been reached.’

embracing kuwait’s heritage: the architectural vision by lava

The architectural design by LAVA, embraces an open and inviting concept, incorporating a set of expansive wings to symbolize a gesture of warm hospitality synonymous with the country. Its luminous facade, illuminated at night, reinforces the thematic essence of the Visionary Lighthouse. At the heart of this two-story structure lies a grand roofed space, crafted to provoke contemplation on Kuwait’s future. Inspired by the serene experience of desert nights beneath a star-studded sky, this central dome serves as a focal point for introspection. Adjacent to this space, a courtyard reminiscent of traditional Islamic architecture showcases a picturesque garden adorned with Kuwaiti flora.

Creative agency insglück (find more here) is tasked with developing the content concept and exhibition for the Kuwait Pavilion. Blending tradition with cutting-edge technology, the agency presents a journey through Kuwait’s past, present, and future within four immersive exhibition rooms. Utilizing interactive spatial arrangements, the multi-sensory experience culminates in a captivating dome projection, offering visitors an immersive and explorative encounter.

The exhibition commences with an engaging pre-show, inviting visitors to envision Kuwait’s mysteries within a supersized pearl. Then, guests are transported to a room depicting the nation’s trading history amidst a desert backdrop. In the third exhibition space, the focus shifts to Kuwait’s people, where an interactive wall resembling a tableau of Kuwaiti society introduces select personalities and projects, offering firsthand insights into the country. Visitors are encouraged to engage interactively, gaining a multifaceted understanding of Kuwait’s diverse culture, economy, and scientific endeavors. Concluding with a compelling dome projection in the main exhibit, guests actively contribute their wishes and dreams for shaping tomorrow’s future.
