Architect María José Gutiérrez presents Zeuhary, a cluster of wooden cabins located in the Valle de Guadalupe wine region in Ensenada, Mexico. The project takes shape around vineyards, allowing habitants to focus the experience on the nature that surrounds them. Gutiérrez combines four cabins and a common area, connected through terraces and hanging bridges for greater interaction among guests. The circular floor plan, together with transition spaces such as hanging bridges, wooden paths, and spiral staircases, generate fluid and dynamic routes ‘which allow us to reconnect with ourselves and awaken our inner child through play and the movement,’ shares the architect.

40 sqm wooden units recalling natural tones and local crafts

Stepping inside the Zeuhary cabins, each unit spans 40 sqm each, and includes a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen area, jacuzzi with deck, rooftop with hammock- type net and suspension bridge that connects to the common area. Meanwhile, the chukum finish on the walls gives an organic texture and helps keep the interiors cool in summer, while the exterior coating of recycled pine wood offers thermal insulation in both winter and summer for greater energy efficiency. As for the furniture and interior decoration, María José Gutiérrez uses organic materials from the region and different areas of the country, earth tones and gray contrasts, crafts, natural fibers, textiles, local wood and stone, recognizing Mexican handcraft talent and tradition. Lastly, being located in an agricultural region with little water, the site prioritizes the reuse of gray water for irrigation of the vineyards.
