The Nest stands by the Chao Phraya River

The Nest by The Collective Studio Co., Ltd. draws from a bird’s nest, incorporating geometric shapes with natural blending in Thailand. The architecture mimics trees sprouting from the natural contours of the land, creating a harmonious connection with the surroundings. The arrangement of buildings follows the contour lines gradually, leading towards the main structure. A garage building rises on the side, forming an elevation that directs the gaze towards the main house. Geometric features, such as interconnected wooden cylindrical and rectangular shapes and elegant curves, define the building fostering a continuous flow throughout. The structure rests upon a concrete structure supporting upper-level rooms, resembling a bird’s nest on a grassy mound.

Collective Studio opts for rugged concrete

Curved lines seamlessly connect the building’s mass, creating a continuous and uninterrupted flow. The design team primarily uses concrete surfaces applying a spray effect for texture. Bare concrete pillars are interspersed to reveal the nature of the structure. Wide glass openings and curves follow the building’s shape, creating a contrast between solid and lightness. The landscape design harmonizes green space with the building’s floor surface, defining a central oval area with a distributed circular appearance. Surrounding areas incorporate rugged stone seating emerging organically from the ground, establishing a continuous transition of lines from the floor to the hardscape mass, creating a dynamic atmosphere in the grassy space.
