30 years of maison&objet 2024 with TECH EDEN

Marking their 30th anniversary, Maison&Objet introduces ‘TECH EDEN: Towards a paradise regained’ as the core theme for its 2024 event lineup. Teaming up with creative strategy agency Peclers Paris, the trade fair unites the seemingly contradictory concepts of ‘tech’ and ‘eden’ to stimulate dialogue among professionals in interior architecture, hospitality, and retail, encouraging them to envision a biophilic future where technology and nature coexist harmoniously. This compelling concept will be thoroughly explored throughout the organization’s Paris Design Week fair, the city’s showrooms, and MOM (Maison&Objet and More) online platform.

Maison&Objet (see here), over the last three decades, has hosted thousands of international talents both online and offline. With participants from Italy, Hong Kong, the United States, and beyond, the tradeshow maintains its position as a pivotal hub for the industry. In the footsteps of the 2023 theme, ‘ENJOY: in a quest for pleasures,’ the 2024 edition, TECH EDEN, continues the tradition of bringing together diverse offerings from around the world for the creative community.

utopic interior spaces envisioned by tech eden

Maison&Objet collaborated with Peclers Paris to analyze trends in film, residential and commercial spaces, and emerging technology to devise 2024’s theme. Through this joint effort, they identified the imperative to harmonize the industry’s connection between interior space, the environment, and the digital realm. The resulting theme, TECH EDEN, serves as a provocation, urging designers and brands to harness cutting-edge technologies to shape a utopian, earth-centered future. This vision materializes through a curated collection of products, presentations, and spaces.

To establish the conceptual framework of its theme, Maison&Objet has identified pioneering projects and designers that have successfully integrated technology into well-being-focused design. The ‘Well-Being & Beauty’ sector, showcased at the January 2024 exhibition, thoughtfully assembles products illustrating how subtle technologies can enhance domestic well-being. Additionally, their 2024 Designer of the Year, Mathieu Lehanneur, embodies an optimistic view on technology that foreshadows the overarching spirit of the event. For instance, his prominent creation, ‘Once Upon a Dream,’ introduces a capsule hotel room with an artificial and programmable management of natural day-to-night cycles, employing modern technologies to enhance the quality of sleep.

TECH EDEN spans multiple locations, with some embracing a hybrid approach. To explore this paradigm, Maison&Objet unveils three distinctive sectors; first, there’s the “What’s New? In Retail?” space, curated by François Delclaux and design agency BETC. This collaborative space highlights three trends: sustainable minimalism, responsible brutalism (focusing on the reuse and recycling of materials), and organic fluidity. Next, in the home sector, Elisabeth Leriche’s “What’s New? In Decor” space presents emerging  patterns, textiles, installations, and immersive décor for interiors. Finally, the hospitality sector introduces the “Hospitality Lab,” featuring three immersive escape pods named “awakening, active, and regenerative.” These modular spaces redefine seemingly fixed environments through tech-interventions. Exhibited are spaces like a cafe transformed into a well-being space, luxury hotel spas that become multi-sensory experiences, and public waiting areas-turned-sports halls, all aided by immersive technologies.
