a contemporary reinvention of the iconic game of pool

Conceived by Czech designer Monika Kozderková of STUDIO VONO for furniture brand Two Hundred Tons, the Mammoth pool table reinvents the iconic game with a blend of historic cues and contemporary design. The table’s laser-cut steel construction introduces an interplay of lightness and stability, offering a gathering point for multiple generations to engage in a revitalized experience in the classic game of pool. Reimagining the traditional wooden pool comprising impenetrable black boxes, the Mammoth opts for a visually lighter and more playful aesthetic with an elegant reduction in the mass of its top. This decrease in visual weight is achieved by utilizing the steel legs to guide the pool balls into a discreet shelf beneath, eliminating the need for a cumbersome tabletop and speeding up gameplay.

Expanding on the earlier success of the Marshmallow Ping Pong Table in 2018, designer Monika Kozderková delves deeper into the sphere of furniture products for sport and leisure, re-examining centuries worth of functional design. Together with Prague-based studio Two Hundred Tons, she examines and enhances finer details of the game for a more contemporary finish and efficient game. The felt-covered stone top features custom-built rubber edges strategically positioned to guide pool balls into their openings. Legs and shelving, adorned with a resilient foam, contribute both to stability and a near-silent playing experience. Monika Kozderková’s approach preserves the core of the classic pool table, offering an alternative for enthusiasts seeking a more versatile and subdued gaming environment. ‘We wanted to retain the soul of the classic pool table that has captured the hearts of players for decades, while also inviting a fresh audience to experience the joy of the game,’ Kozderková remarks, ‘especially those who were previously unable to imagine a pool table in their interior. It is important for us to create pieces that invite an analogue interaction.’
