makina watches unveils andras_I
Makina Watches has introduced a fresh form to the archetype of three-handed rectangular watches with a sportier, more modern approach for its latest model, Makina Andras_I. The Philippines-based brand transforms the classic into the contemporary to craft an imposing timepiece with minimalist, geometric forms. Cloaked in stealth black, the watch’s encasing is composed of angular shapes that contribute to its multifaceted design, finished with an interplay of gloss and brushed surfaces with pronounced edges that ensure comfort. The multi-layered dial, with a contemporary matte finish, adds depth to the timepiece, while the shapely strap complements the chiseled case and completes the ensemble, embodying the watch’s 3-dimensional design.

Designed by Makina Watches’ founder, Danilo Villanueva Jr, the timepiece was developed to create an imposing presence from every angle. Its overall octagonal shape purposefully tapers around a circular movement to maintain a wearable form at 33mm wide, 44mm lug to lug, and a slender 10.5mm thickness. On the dial, polished metallic indices form hour markers, mirroring the shape of its sword-like hands. Painted a distinctive blue hue, these ensure high legibility under various lighting conditions. The elliptical shape carving into the bottom layer for the seconds markers offsets on an oval racetrack adds a unique face to the Andras_I.
Makina has further utilized a quality material palette. The 50m water-resistant case is crafted from PVD-coated surgical grade 316L stainless steel, featuring gloss and brushed surfaces for a more robust and premium finish. The dial is made of layered brass, while the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass has 3x AR coating. The silicone strap, equipped with a deployant clasp, strikes a balance between durability and comfort. Flipping the timepiece reveals a flat back, enhancing comfort and showcasing a movement found in many luxury timepieces, Sellita SW260-1, in gold — a nod to the brand’s visual identity. At an accessible price point, the watch is available for US 725.
