MINI launches e-bike 1, its first-ever electric bikes

MINI and Angell Mobility unveils E-Bike 1

MINI and the French brand Angell Mobility have unveiled the car brand’s first-ever series of electric bikes that come with an aluminum frame and wheels, steel spokes, an injected-thermoplastic chain guard, and swappable batteries, to name a few. The E-Bike 1 can be customized too, depending on the biker’s preferences, and the MINI electric bikes are offered in two variants: Ocean Wave Green, which may signal the no-carbon-emission and electrification path of MINI, and Vibrant Silver, inspired by the iconic colors of MINI.

MINI E-Bike 1 is a mix of MINI’s aesthetics and the streamlined aluminum and carbon design of Angell bikes. The leather-free saddle and handlebar grips are crafted by Brooks England, and the pedals, thermoplastic chain guard, and mudguards integrate with the bike frame design. As the biker hops onto the electric bike, they will find a 2.4-inch touchscreen that displays the key information of the bike on the go. Technology is also at the core of electric bikes as MINI and Angell allow the biker to adjust their preferences and communicate with their bike through an integrated cockpit or their smartphone.

Electric bikes tailored to the biker’s height

MINI E-bike 1 is also tailored to bikers with varying heights. The S frame, which weighs around 17 kilos with batteries included, is targeted for users with heights between 160 and 180 centimeters, while the M frame, which weighs around 17.5 kilos with batteries included, is tailored to bikers between 170 and 190 centimeters. The sleek design of the electric bikes makes it easy for MINI and Angell Mobility to install the compact and swappable batteries that can be found just below the leather-free seat and at the rear of the E-Bike 1.

MINI and Angell say that the battery is easy to transport since it only has an overall weight of 2.1 kilos. They believe that it can be recharged in just two hours and with any available electric port. The electric bikes are also fitted with parabolic headlights and flashing lights for better visibility both at night and during the day. They include an audible and visible bike alarm which has a two-year replacement warranty in case someone steals the e-bikes.

Mobile app for riding modes and anti-theft feature

MINI and Angell want to prevent that from happening through the dedicated app. On the mobile app, the bikers can lock and unlock their electric bikes. They can also do so using their Apple Watch or by simply entering a personal pin code on the cockpit touchscreen. Real-time geolocation is also a feature of the mobile app which helps the biker keep an eye on their electric bike the entire time, and the bikers are also offered three different riding modes in case they need assistance.

‘Fly Eco’ is the equivalent of battery saver for smartphones since MINI E-Bike 1 conserves the battery power of the bike. ‘Fly Dry’ suits those who may not have the energy anymore to pedal by providing them with the required power to get them to their destination. To even speed through the road, ‘Fly Fast’ can be activated which propels the electric bike to cruise at 25 km/h in one go. MINI E-Bike 1 will only be available worldwide in 1959 units. The number indicates the year MINI Cooper – now electrified – was introduced.
