After Apple launched its new iPhone 15 Pro in titanium during its Wonderlust live event, the tech company unveils a series of first-ever Apple Watch bands in knitted nylon with 3D patterns woven and hand-braided by Hermès. The history of the French Maison emerges from the Apple Watch bands, starting with its signature cotton canvas that was first introduced in 1930.

The Toile H band visually conveys the classic Hermès check, woven to be sturdy and lightweight enough to carry the Apple Watch. Another woven style appears as Twill Jump, which features a colorful, contrasting border. It subtly refers to the precise edge painting used throughout Hermès. These styles are available in a single tour, meaning it wraps just around the wrist.

First-ever hand-braided wrist bands from Hermès

Hermès also crafts double-tour knitted and hand-braided bands for the Apple Watch. They loop around the wrists twice and may double as a bracelet at a glance. For this bridled style, the Apple Watch is lent Hermès’ equestrian tradition, which is an important part of the Maison’s heritage. Bridon, for instance, follows suit with a continuous knit that is hand-braided. It forms a 3D chevron pattern, and the overlapping knitted nylon crisscross to shape the Apple Watch band. The material follows Apple’s announcement of no longer using leather such as calfskin in any of its products including the watch bands.

Sports fans are taken care of too since Hermès reveals what it calls its most adventurous band yet through Kilim. In this style, the soft and waterproof rubber is molded until it takes the shape of the band. Then, the wearer can wrap it around their wrist, and it locks with a quick-release deployment buckle. It is shaped with the geometric interlocking “H” motif, offering an overall aesthetic that is equal parts athletic and artful. The changeable Apple Watch bands by Hermès will hit the stores on September 22nd, 2023.
