Unveiling the first 4-seater megacar

Koenigsegg unveils Gemera, its dubbed world’s first 4-seater sporty megacar styled with sun-visor-shaped windows. The Gemera combines the features of a mid-engine, two-seater megacar through its engine characteristics with the practicalities of a full four-seater car, still ample enough to fit in carry-on suitcases for travel in the same vehicle. The sporty megacar describes itself as a hyper vehicle that can be shared with four people instead of the common two-seater setting found in supercars.

From the exterior, Koenigsegg Gemera embodies a silhouette that is long, sleek, and minimal, while still keeping that iconic aesthetic of the car brand. Before the occupants step inside, butterfly doors slowly swing up and open up space for their entrance. Sports car seats with memory foam and in leather brown meld with the black accents of the interior, and the Koenigsegg Gemera seats four tall adults comfortably plus some dedicated space for their carry-on luggage inside. In the trunk of the vehicle, they can fit around four more carry-on suitcases, showcasing Koenigsegg Gemera’s extensive storage for a megacar.

Developing the engines of Koenigsegg Gemera

During the development of Koenigsegg Gemera, the Light Speed Transmission (LST) was introduced in the car brand’s Jesko model where the setup removes the flywheel and clutch from the engine. The same style then is incorporated in the Gemera megacar, which features a revamped Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (LSTT).

It is a driving system with four-wheel torque vectoring that can be powered by either the 800 horsepower Dark Matter E-motor or the twin-turbo TFG, or a combination of the two, giving the megacar a maximum output of 1400 horsepower and 1850 Nrm. By combining the LSTT with the Dark Matter E-motor, the drivetrain of the Gemera becomes lighter, smaller, and faster.

electric propulsion of Koenigsegg Gemera

With the new electric propulsion system and optimized use of the engine’s rev range, the Gemera’s acceleration and performance have been improved compared to the previous version. In line with this, Koenigsegg Gemera also gets a version called the HV8 (Hot V8). Initially, fitting a mid-engined V8 configuration in the Gemera seemed impossible due to its spacious interior and compact size.

However, with the layout of LSTT, Koenigsegg made it happen by converting the Jesko V8 into a Hot V8 configuration, where the exhaust exits at the top center. With this new HV8 engine, the Gemera now delivers 1500 horsepower, in addition to the 800 horsepower provided by the Dark Matter E-motor. This totals to 2300 horsepower and 2750 Nm of torque, setting a new world record for a production car.
