Moncler and zellerfeld introduce trailgrip 3D sneakers

Moncler inaugurates its venture into 3D printing by collaborating with Zellerfeld to fashion a 3D-printed version of its Trailgrip sneakers using only recyclable mono-material. The single-thread ingredient that constructed the shoes is a decision from Moncler as part of its commitment to eco-consciousness and a signature design ethos of Zellerfeld.

Zellerfeld creates washable 3D-printed shoes that can be broken down and remade again through lattices – made with no stitching, glue, or weak points – churned out by the machine. After the user has gotten worn out using their pair of Zellerfeld kicks, they can just drop them at one of their recycling points to help regenerate the shoes. The concept lends its ethos to Moncler whose Trailgrip 3D sneakers embody the same premise.

A difference may come through from the veiny design sloping down for the upper part of the resulting sneakers, a symbol of Moncler’s fashion touch to the collaboration. The Moncler Trailgrip 3D shoes are set to be unveiled in Paris at the new edition of Studio Ascenti, the brand’s footwear exhibition in an open-format interactive area. The limited edition Trailgrip 3D will be reserved exclusively for members of Moncler’s worldwide footwear community, who will also be able to attend the showroom preview at Studio Ascenti for an exclusive glimpse at future Moncler drops.

3D footwear from moncler and zellerfeld on the horizon

Upon a closer look, Moncler’s Trailgrip 3D resembles melted candle wax formed uniformly through a 3D printer. The hardened pools of wax brush against the spongy material surrounding other parts of the footwear, still using the same material as the ones Zellerfeld fed the printer. The Moncler Trailgrip 3D sneaker is a concept collaboration led by design, exploration, and Moncler’s eye for new manufacturing possibilities; this time, employing Zellerfeld’s technology. While Moncler Trailgrip 3D is currently not publicly available, Zellerfeld states that a 3D-printed Moncler offering, perhaps the same sneakers, may be on the horizon.

‘As Moncler’s first venture into 3D-printing, this collaboration serves as a monumental moment for the footwear industry and further underscores the significant shift brands are taking to break away from the conventional factory manufacturing process. Luxury fashion houses like Moncler are driving the future of fashion by embracing 3D-printing production models as the new standard,’ says Cornelius Schmitt, Co-Founder and CEO of Zellerfeld.  The new edition of Studio Ascenti will feature the Zellerfeld-produced shoe alongside Moncler’s planned sneaker collaborations with Adidas Originals and Salehe Bembury.
