Fast-charging batteries of Nyobolt electric sports car

Nyobolt, a UK-based developer of ultra-fast-charging batteries, claims that its electric sports car can charge fully and repeatedly in less than 6 minutes by equipping its car design with the developer’s in-house rapid-charging batteries. Nyobolt says it is using a 35kWh battery that is capable of fully charging with up to 250km range in under 6 mins using existing charging infrastructure. Its electric sports car concept is expected to weigh ‘closer to one tonne than two’ as the Nyobolt states.

‘That’s the equivalent of charging at over 1,600 mph, more than double the fastest charging cars on the road today,’ Nyobolt team adds. As seen in the video, the ultra-fast-charging batteries are similar to the AA ones typically found at home. The design team injects numerous AA-like batteries in a test-tube holder inlet until they form a battery similar to the ones found in most petrol-run cars these days. From here, Nyobolt and its sports car are electrified and can reach up to 250km on a single 6-minute charge.

Only 6 minutes to fully charge nyobolt’s electric sports car

If the drivers are worried about the lifespan of Nyobolt’s ultra-fast-charging batteries, the developer claims that it has tested its batteries for over 2,000 fast charge cycles ‘without significant performance loss.. Moreover, Nyobolt technology is not limited to small batteries. Larger packs, such as batteries as large as those employed in any luxury EV, truck, or bus used today, can also be made and could be charged in a few minutes, once 1MW chargers become available,’ the Nyobolt team adds.

Touching upon the electric sports car design, Nyobolt taps designer Julian Thomson who then invited design and engineering business CALLUM to work on the development of the car design and in bringing it to life. Nyobolt’s vehicle is inspired by Thomson’s Lotus Elise design and spins it as a version of a nimble and lightweight sports car. Bolder styles are evident through the at-times exaggerated proportions of the car’s exterior, showcasing its wider, longer, and lower overall while exuding an upfront attitude and hunkered flair.

The design team carves the charging space beside the passenger’s door. The users just flap the lid open and plug the charger to begin waiting for less than 6 minutes. The team also plans to add a digital screen beside the charging lid to indicate how much time is still needed before it gets fully charged. The design team Nyobolt’s fast-charging and smaller battery packs and read-to-deploy technology is expected to go into production in early 2024 while the release of the electric sports car is still up in the air.
