the concept for ‘wood+plastic’ cutlery was founded during a different project, for the branding of a restaurant in italy. designer riccardo randi, in an attempt to find appropriate take-away cutlery for the eatery, quickly found that the market for nice disposable sets was heavily lacking. during the design process, it was decided that wood would be the nicest material; yet the taste of wood left much to be desired. the solution brings the best of both worlds by combining a plastic, recyclable head piece and a re-usable wooden handle. currently, ‘wood+plastic’ is not in production. prototypes were made by randi using 3D printed nylon plastic and hand-cut wooden sticks.
