finnish firm rintala eggertsson architects designed ‘kaluga floating sauna’ as part of the ‘festival of landscape objects’ held in russia in july 2008. the firm along with international architects; norman foster, francois roshe, vladimir plotkin, sergey scuratov, tatan kuzembaev were all invited to create structures based on the theme of a house built on water.
for their ‘kaluga floating sauna’ they designed a short term floating house which could be used as a shelter for 3 – 6 persons within several days. their sauna floated down the ugra river and was later transported to the zvizhi village in russia where it has become part of a permanent museum exhibit and are now used as guest houses.
