‘a house for essex’ by grayson perry with FAT architecture, harwich, england image © FAT / living architecture
international practice FAT architecture teamed up with local english artist grayson perry in designing the ‘house for essex,’ an avant-garde residential model covered in mosaics, tapestries, sculptures and ceramics that tell the story of the mythical essex woman called julie.
overlooking the river stour near harwich, the two bedroom house will be available to rent by the general public beginning in 2014, as the permit to build in a natural reservation has just been acquired. the dwelling stands as a cross between a gingerbread house and a chapel with a jovial play in scale, complete with an infinite attention to details that illustrate julie’s life and accomplishments, in hopes that it will change the world’s view of essex women.
