‘starlight place’, a shopping mall completed international practice Aedas has recently opened its doors to the public in chongqing, china. adjacent to the new monorail line and jiang nan avenue, the site’s location will become a southern gateway into the nanping districts’ commercial and business hub. dynamic lines and stretched forms derived from the encompassing mountainscape combine to generate an iconic exterior, contributing to the building’s status as a landmark in the area. cladding panels are applied in random angular patterns to compliment the conglomeration of volumes. polished black granite, grey aluminum and copper-toned sheets contrast the bold transparent gestures which form the structure.
a public plaza outside of the grand atrium incorporates paving patterns, signage and works of art into the visitor’s progression towards the entry. glazed enclosures introduce abundant natural daylight into a tall atrium, filtering illumination into the interior which is delineated by undulating and soft curves.
