portuguese practice 10dedosvalentes has designed ‘pátio huguenot’, a shelter for horses and their riders in oporto, portugal. with an entry facade lined with verandas and balconies, the rustic structure merges the scales of man and horse within a single building. five corrals, a storage area and covered outdoor area for grooming are positioned on the ground floor for the horses. riders and visitors may lounge within the upper level living room with a walkout balcony for exhibition spaces for prizes as well as a bathing and toilet facility.
at the ground level, concrete walls support the outer wooden shell while the top half of the building is a timber frame sheathed with corrugated sheet metal.
