polish architecture practice robert konieczny – KWK promes has sent us images of their residential project, ‘single family house in bialy bor’, an entry into this year’s world architecture festival in the future projects category. designed as a gathering place for eight related families, the projects features what looks to be eight autonomous structures from the surface which connect as a communal space under the natural slope of the site.
starting with the geometric consistency of a circle, the initial layout was modified into a semicircle to provide views to the nearby lake as well as to facilitate daylight intake for each house. the sleeping quarters, or ‘night-time’ programs, are located on the upper level in the units, creating privacy for each respective families. opening up to the south-west by a cut in the landscape, the communal space features floor to ceiling glazing, lending a light atmosphere to overcome the feeling of being underground.
